nuts ‘n’ seeds

Nuts

Nuts are a great source of protein and fibre and they are naturally low in sugar. They can provide you with a non dairy milk alternative and amazing butters for use in various dishes both sweet and savoury. Ground almonds and cashew nuts can even be used as a flour alternative. Im actually addicted to peanut butter and eat it straight from the tub and usually end up gasping for breath and staggering about blue in the face looking for a drink to wash it down with. Its a bit like drinking alcohol when you always say I won’t do that again when you wake up hungover, (yeah, until the next time).

Chia, Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds

Both pumpkin and sunflower seeds are a great source of healthy fats, minerals and vitamins. They can be added easily to any meal from salads to desserts. Chia seeds are very nutritious and another good source of fibre and protein. They are even good for your immune system as they are packed with antioxidants. If your a vegan you can even use them as an egg substitute by adding them to water: (1tbsp chia – 3tbsp water). I love chia puddings and have included some recipes in the Sweet Treats section of the website.
